New opportunity to give your views on Lewes Local Plan

The council is currently running a “crucial” consultation on the draft local plan. The good news is that the last time you gave them your thoughts, they listened!

The 'Defining our policies and early site allocation proposals' consultation is a “first phase” consultation on the emerging Lewes District Local Plan. The Council is urging residents to take part and share their views - so please do help!. The second consultation will be held later this year and the Council says it will place greater emphasis on more rural parts of the district (that’s us, folks!)

The deadline for comments on the current consultation is 5pm on Friday 28 February 2025.

Draft text if you live in Lewes and Eastbourne District:

As a resident of Lewes District Council I would like to respond to your consultation on the Draft Local Plan.

I am very pleased to see that the primary vision is to put the environment at the heart of the Plan.

In light of this I would particularly like to support Policy NE1 which is about protecting the natural environment, Policy HW2 which addresses minimising pollution impact and Policy D3 which covers protecting the landscape character of the area.

I also support the council in trying to achieve a plan with a number of houses below the figures suggested by the revised Government targets. We clearly need more houses, but this cannot be achieved in Lewes District without significantly damaging the local environment. Any reintroduction of the Eton New Town would be particularly harmful.

Best wishes
